Dutch internet drug baron sentenced to 10 years
The Dutch drug trafficker Maikel S. has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a United States court. He was found guilty of selling drugs on a large scale via the now closed website Silk Road.
The 23 year old S., known as "Supertrips" to his clients, was arrested in Miami in 2013. He pleaded guilty in court last year and admitted to selling drugs through the website described as "an illegal version of Amazon.com" by the federal prosecutor on Thursday, Chicago Sun Times reports. He made a deal with the American Justice, which may lead to him serving his sentence, or part of it, in the Netherlands.
S. made millions in bitcoins by selling MDMA, ecstasy pills, cocaine, cannabis and LSD from the Netherlands through the website. He had clients from all over the world, but especially in the United States.
S. told the judge on Thursday that he was "ashamed and embarrassed" by his actions. According to him, he justified his business by telling himself that his clients made their own decision to buy drugs.
