Equestrian leader killed in horse accident

Gerrit-Jan Swinkels, former alderman of Best and president of the equestrian event Indoor Brabant, has died in a horse riding accident. The 67 year old Swinkels fell from his horse during a ride near the Belgian town of Knokke-Heist. He passed away of his injuries on Monday, De Limburger reports. Swinkels was regarded as an influential director in the Dutch equestrian sector. In addition to being president of Indoor Brabant, he was also the chairman of the Showjumping Fund Netherlands. With the Fund Swinkels worked hard to keep talented top horses in the Netherlands.
