Sinterklaas to arrive in Meppel, Drenthe this November

The steamboat carrying Sinterklaas and his helpers will be arriving in Meppel, Drenthe on November 14th this year. All children from Meppel and surroundings are invited to come welcome the Saint. NTR, the broadcaster of the Sinterklaas show Sinterklaasjournaal, made this announcement today. Sinterklaas' national visit is being organized by the broadcaster, the municipality of Meppel and Meppel businesses and organizations. This is the first time ever that the national entry will happen in Drenthe and mayor Jan Westmaas is delighted. "It's great that we can be the first to welcome Sinterklaas in our country this year." the mayor said to NTR. Commissioner of the King Jacques Tichelaar is also overjoyed. "I believe in Sinterklaas, for me this is a long-held wish come true." Sinterklaas' national arrival was in Gouda last year. His arrival was somewhat marred by a fight between Zwarte Piet protesters and supporters. 90 people were arrested.
