Fire destroys former nightclub in Steenwijk

A large fire in the center of Steenwijk destroyed a former nightclub on Thursday morning. Two adjacent buildings, a restaurant and a home, were evacuated as a precaution. The fire broke out around 2:45 a.m. in the building on Stationsstraat. The cause of the fire is still unknown. A spokesperson of the safety office Veiligheidregio IJsselland told NU that no one was injured. "The property must be considered lost", the spokesperson said. Firefighter had the fire under control around 6:30 a.m., but are still working on extinguishing. The surrounding buildings are being kept wet to keep the fire from spreading. It is unclear when the evacuated residents, who were collected elsewhere, will be able to return to their homes. https://twitter.com/RTVSLOS/status/601260543446544385
