Beach campaign to prevent missing children launches in Scheveningen
Lifeguards and the police are handing out temporary wristbands for children on beaches and recreational lakes, reports newswire ANP. Parents can easily write their phone number down on a wristband, so missing children can be quickly reunited with their families when found.
A total of 120,000 free bands, called "06-polsbandjes," are available.
The action is to start next Monday on the Scheveningen beach during International Missing Children's Day. The goal of the of emergency services and lifeguard campaign is to make beach visitors aware of how they can prevent their child from getting lost.
On average, around 900 children get lost on the Scheveningen beach every year.
