Long lines likely due to delays with new Schiphol airport passenger screening

Travelers may face long queues at Schiphol this summer because the airport's new security system is still not ready. Major renovation is needed for the new control system. According to the Telegraaf, the schedule provided to the contractors states that it should have been completed by April 15th, but it is still under construction. Schiphol told the newspaper that the new system will be completed by June 3rd. But this leaves them no time for the planned 7 weeks test of the system. The idea for the new system is that travelers from both inside and outside Europe go through a central security. The project is ready for travelers within Europe. The delay will affect international travelers and transfer passengers. "Schiphol is likely to become as leaky as a basket and with it end up 20 years back in time" one of those involved told the Telegraaf. "The question is how the summer peak will be compensated for without the new system being tested."
