Body of missing Dutch hiker identified in New Zealand

Remains found in Golden Bay, New Zealand were positively identified as the body of Dutch tourist Ken Boogers, who went missing in the country in March, reports the Nelson Mail. Boogers disappeared after taking a hike from the camp where he was staying. A post-mortem examination and DNA testing identified the remains found on the beach on April 20 and April 27 as Ken Boogers. There was a search operation launched after the 26 year old's disappearance, but no sign of the tourist was found. His parents flew to New Zealand from the Netherlands to join the search operation but returned home in early April. Constable Jonathan Davies said he had spoken with the parents who were making arrangements to transport the remains to the Netherlands. "It was just confirming what they already kind of knew," Davies said. "It's not the result we wanted, but it's always good not to have someone unaccounted for."
