Police, fire dept. plead for fireworks ban in parliament
On Thursday the fire department and the police will be pleading for a fireworks ban in the Tweede Kamer, lower house of parliament.
According to the Telegraaf, the fire department wants to ban all fireworks for consumers, while the police only wants to ban flares and firecrackers as these cause the most disturbances. The police wants a ban to be introduced gradually.
Thus far only GroenLinks and the Partij voor de Dieren support a fireworks ban in the Tweede Kamer, AD reports. The Partij voor de Dieren organized a hearing with experts like optometrists, the fire department, the police and some mayors to explain their views on consumer fireworks.
