Minister: Electric car incentives to remain in place

The government will continue to support and encourage electric driving in the Netherlands, even though it is expensive, Minister Henk Kamp of Economic Affairs told BNR at the auto show in Amsterdam.

Minister Kamp and State Secretary Eric Wiebes of Finance are currently working on ways the government can encourage even more electric cars in the Netherlands. According to Kamp, the goal of 200 thousand electric cars in the country by 2020 is very reachable, but he feels the stimulation can happen in a smarter way.

"If you consider that six years ago there were 600 and now there is already 50 thousand, it is going in the right direction." he said to BNR. "I advised Wiebes to keep the rules a simple as possible. There will be no big changes in the policy, but it could be better."
