Police officer seriously wounded in arrest of wanted Belgian

A police officer was seriously injured in the arrest of a wanted Belgian on Wednesday evening. The man was being sought for aggravated assault in Belgium, report the Dutch police. The man was spotted in a hotel on the Arnhemseweg in Ede on Wednesday. Upon seeing the agents, the man grabbed a knife and stabbed them several times. One of the agents was seriously injured and taken to a hospital, where he was operated on immediately. His condition has since been reported as stable. The man was being sought by Belgian police for severely beating a woman several days prior. During an earlier attempt to arrest the man in Belgium, he drove into agents and then fled. He was also in possession of a firearm during the incident. Belgian authorities had contacted authorities in the Netherlands after suspecting that the man had fled across the border.
