Police may strike during KNVB Cup
Dutch police are considering going on strike during the KNVB Cup final match between PEC Zwolle and FC Groningen at De Kuip on May 3, the Dutch Police Union (NPB) announced on their website. The strike is part of protests for the lack of new collective agreement.
Outside of the final match, the police plan to strike during "nightlife hours" this weekend, which would mean unsupervised nightlife and parties.
Minister of Security and Justice Ard van der Steur received an ultimatum from the NPB, but the deadline expired 10 days ago. Police organized another protest on Wednesday when a police vehicle motorcade drove at slow speed across the entire width of the roadway, jamming several highways in Noord-Nederland. All the police stations nationwide were shut down for two hours on Thursday.
As long as there is no improved collective agreement, the long-lasting protests and actions are becoming harder and harder, NPB stated.
