Police non-emergency phone lines closed Friday in protest
The non-emergency phone lines of the police will be temporarily unavailable on Friday. The unions have called on all police officers to attend a work meeting in The Hague and the phone centers will therefore be unoccupied.
The offices in Noord-Nederland, Oost-Nederland, Midden-Nederland, Oost-Brabant and Limburg will be unavailable between 09:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. In the afternoon between 13:00 and 15:00 the police offices in Noord-Holland, Amsterdam and The Hague, Rotterdam, Zeeland and West-Brabant will be closed.
This is the latest in a long line of police actions against the lack of a favorable collective bargaining offer from Minister Ard van der Steur of Security and Justice, according to police union ACP. Other actions included painting a large sign on the trail of the Rotterdam Marathon, a police march in The Hague, sounding of sirens, driving slowly on highways and only writing tickets for serious offenses. The unions also organized an action to take place around the cyber conference in The Hague last week, but the court ruled that this action could not take place.
There will also be a police action on Thursday, when the police stations will be closed to the public for two hours. Police officers will remain available for emergencies so that safety is still guaranteed, according to the unions.
