Ajax may axe team director
The Advisory Board of Ajax is exploring "several scenarios" concerning the position of General Manager, currently held by Michael Kinsbergen. Kinsbergen is under contract thru June 30.
Kinsbergen signed his 2.5-year contract in 2013 with the intention of giving way to Edwin van der Sar the following summer. The former Dutch national team goalkeeper is currently the club’s marketing director, but suggested he is not yet ready for the position of General Manager, writes Nu.nl.
The leading candidate to succeed Kinsbergen is Roger van Boxtel, the former Minister of Urban Policy and Integration, reports the Telegraaf. Van Boxtel served as an interim advisory board member since 2011, and was part of the club's Council of Members, when it still existed. He is reportedly a friend of team commissioner Hans Wijers.
Kinsbergen was successful in finding a replacement for Ajax’s former main sponsor, Aegon. The main sponsor of the club is now Ziggo, with an eight million euro annual deal through 2019.
