iAmsterdam going green for St. Patrick's Day

The arrival of St Patrick’s Day, widely celebrated in Ireland and in the United States, is also marked today throughout the municipality of Amsterdam. The iAmsterdam logo on Museumplein will also be shine bright with green lighting Tuesday night. The change of colour is done as a part of the "Global Greening" campaign, the aim of which is to draw attention to Ireland as a vacation destination. In total, 160 buildings around the world will join the campaign, including the Colosseum in Rome, a spokesman for iAmsterdam told Het Parool. St Patrick’s Day, celebrated on the 17th of March, commemorates St Patricius, the patron saint of Ireland. The holiday is also well-established in the United States due to cultural influence of Americans with Irish descent.
