Train fire leaves one hurt, trains cancelled
A fire in a train near the Abcoude station has left rail service cancelled between Utrecht Central and Amsterdam Schiphol airport. The train stoppage is in effect on NS Intercity trains at least to 2 a.m. Friday, the NS said.
One passenger was hurt in the Thursday afternoon fire. That person was transported to an area hospital with burn injuries, Nu.nl reported. The extent of the burn wounds is not known.
A conductor and 23 passengers were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Intercity trains between Amsterdam and Utrecht were diverted through Hilversum. Passengers were initially told to expect up to sixty minutes of additional travel time. As of 11 p.m. Thursday, the necessary added travel time was a maximum of thirty minutes.
