Hostage situation ends with arrests

Police in Dordrecht ended a hostage drama on Sunday; no one was injured during the raid, but the man who had been taken hostage Friday had been beaten by the people who took him.

The 25-year-old man was snatched from a house at Mau de Jongstraat in Zaltbommel late Friday night. Police say the hostage takers had used violence and then took their victim away in a car. They were able to trace them to a house at Augustijnenkamp in Dordrecht, where they were holding the man. “After careful preparation and in consultation with the Prosecutor’s Office, the Arrest Team raided the house on Sunday,” police say in a release. The say their objective was to free the victim safely. Two men were arrested in the house during the raid. Police say their investigation now focuses on what exactly prompted the man to take the other hostage. “It appears that this regards a matter in the criminal circuit. More arrests are not unlikely,” police say.
