Univ. Amsterdam occupiers sit with Mayor
The activists who had been occupying a building of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) for days, had a discussion with Mayor Eberhard van der Laan and representatives of the University's executive board at the Mayor's residence last night, the Volkskrant reports.
The result of the discussion is as of yet unclear. A spokesperson for the mayor told the newspaper that it is now up to both parties to reach an agreement on the situation in the Bungehuis. The building has been occupied for more than a week.
Last week the UvA filed a lawsuit to force the protesters out of the building. On Thursday the judge ruled that the occupiers have to leave the Bungehuis and will have to pay a fine of 1 thousand euros for each day they remain inside.
The occupiers have not left the building yet. According to the Volkskrant, they are demanding the board's resignation by 12:00 p.m. today.
