Controversial imam gala could lose tax-free status

The controversial Rohamaa benefit which is taking place in Rijswijk on March 8th, could be losing its tax-free status. The tax authorities are investigating whether the gala is really for a good cause, De Telegraaf reports. The Rohamaa Foundation has the status of a Public Benefit Organization, which gives it certain tax advantages. These type of organizations are, however, subject to certain requirements, such as that the institution and people involved with it are not allowed to incite violence or hatred. The tax authorities check whether institution still meet the requirements. "That is partly based on risk selection and based on practical signals", a source at the Tax Office told the newspaper. "But we also look at signals from the media."
