Over half of households get some form of social benefit

More than half of all households (56 percent) made use of at least one social benefit in 2012. This is according to research done by Statistic Netherlands, commissioned by the Quality Institute Dutch Municipalities. 43 percent of these benefits were related to income assistance. Nearly 22 percent of the benefits were related to employment, such as unemployment- and disability benefits. 13 percent of the benefits were related to child welfare, healthcare and welfare. Only 9 percent of the benefits were used for education.
