Widen bike paths everywhere: D66 MP
The bike paths in the Netherlands are getting fuller. The D66 therefore wants the bike paths to be widened.
"We bike more often and make more kilometers. And there are more and more vehicles on the paths", D66 Parliament Member Stientje van Veldhoven said in the AD. "We want the government together with the municipalities to look at how the space on the roads can be better distributed." A top 50 of the biggest problems could clarify the most dangerous paths. "Especially in the big cities it is sometimes so busy that you as a cyclist end up in traffic."
Accidents happen regularly on the bike path and there is a discussion about how it can be prevented. "Accidents happen especially with electric bikes", says Van Veldhoven. "It has been suggested to require bicycle helmets, to introduce a test for the electric bicycle and to set the maximum speed of 25 kilometers. But it is in our opinion better to first check where the bottlenecks are."
