Dutchman dies in Austrian avalanche

A 51 year old Dutch man from Sneek was killed by an avalanche in Austria. The man was caught in the avalanche on Friday and died a day later in a hospital in Innsbruck. The accident occurred in the Nauders ski resort in Tirol, according to Austrian media. The Dutchman was accompanied by two Germans and a guide. They managed to free the 51 year old victim from the snow mass and resuscitated him. The man was transported to the hospital in Zams in critical condition and was then transferred to the University Hospital in Innsbruck, the same hospital that cared for Prince Friso. The cause of the avalanche is still unclear. On Sunday the authorities increased the threat level for avalanches to code 3 on a scale of 5 in many parts of Tirol.
