High winds continue to Friday
The fierce winds that have wreaked havoc across much of the Netherlands for several days in a row will likely ease off by the weekend. Wind gusts of 80 km/h and higher have been reported across the country, with Dutch weather experts calling for a sixth straight code yellow weather warning for coastal provinces and Limburg.
Wednesday’s warning from the government meteorologists at KNMI also covers inland provinces Utrecht and Flevoland, as well as the IJsselmeer and Markermeer lakes. Thunderstorms are expected along the west and northwest of the country. Cloud cover is predicted throughout much of the day, along with occasional storms bringing sleet and hail.
The KNMI predicts winds up to 90 km/h overnight and into Thursday afternoon, with more light rain showers.
