Fire ravages Zeeland church
A large fire destroyed a church building in the village of Hoek in the Terneuzen municipality yesterday afternoon.
The church tower collapsed and the church building burned down completely, the Safety Region Zeeland announced. As far as is known, there were no injuries during the fire. The fire was under control around 15:00 yesterday afternoon.
The outbuildings of the church were spared. Because of the heat it was impossible for firefighters to check the condition of the church. The biggest source of heat was in the collapsed tower. It is clear that a large part of the church is completely burnt out. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
The fire caused a lot of smoke. Local residents were advised to keep their doors and windows closed. The area was closed down.
