Fire engulfs fifty trucks at Schiedam facility
A major fire broke out yesterday in a company in Schiedam where 250 trucks are stored. Fifty empty trucks have gone up in flames. There have also been some explosions, which was caused by the car tires exploding, according to the fire department.
According to a spokesperson of the fire department, the fire was under control around 22:00. There were no casualties in the fire, which raged in a company on Polderweg. The cause of the fire is still unknown, an investigation will be done as soon as the fire is extinguished.
The fire raged in the premises of Schaften Trucks. This company is the one of the world's largest independent organizations in the purchase and sale and the import and export of used trucks, trailers and other heavy duty vehicles.
The clouds of smoke could be seen for kilometers around. The police have restricted access to the site.
