KLM bomb threat strands hundreds in Sint Maarten
Hundreds of KLM travelers were stranded in Sint Maarten for two days while they waited for their flight from Sint Maarten to Curacao and then to Amsterdam.
On Friday the flight could not take off because the plane had technical problems. KLM decided to fly in the part and put the travelers up in a hotel. The repair was further complicated by a bomb threat, which lead to the airport being evacuated. It turned out to be a false alarm.
When the engineers were allowed to return to the plane to repair the fault, they found that the repair would take longer than expected. KLM again tried to find space in hotels for their passengers, but they were fully books. Most of the 380 travelers had to spend the night at the airport.
KLM then decided to send an empty plane for the stranded passengers. The plane departed from Sint Maarten at 23:30 last night and was expected land at Schiphol at 10:00 this morning.
