Bystanders rescue mother, baby from submerged car
A mother and her 18-month-old baby were rescued from their submerged car, after it landed in the Lutterhoofdwijk canal in De Krim, Overijssel on Monday morning. The mother and child have been taken to hospital, but their condition was alarming, a spokesperson for the IJsseland safety region told RTV Drenthe.
Two witnesses jumped into the canal to help after seeing the 30-year-old woman lose control of her car while overtaking a vehicle on the N377. The mother has been taken to a Zwolle hospital, and the baby was admitted at UMCG in Groningen.
The two were reportedly resuscitated at the scene.
Police investigators say the woman was going approximately 45 km/h at the time of the accident, and the N377 was said to be slippery.
The canal is being searched to ensure that there were no other victims.
