New €150m railroad bridge 2 inches too short: report

A mistake was made in the construction of the railroad bridge over the new Maximakanaal - the bridge is four centimeters (2 inches) too low. Rijkswaterstaat and ProRail discovered the error last month. ProRail blames Boskalis, the builder of the bridge. They are now investigating how this error can be fixed. It is unclear whether this can be done without disrupting the rail traffic. The too low bridge is not problematic for shipping. From December 19th ships can sail to Den Bosch thanks to the new canal. Currently container ships still have to sail through the center of Den Bosch. That route closes on January 5th. This is the first new big canal in the Netherlands in 20 years. The work on the canal took about four years and cost 150 million euro.
