City won't be punished for fatal dugout collapse
Achtkarspelen municipality and football club SC Twijzel will not be prosecuted for the collapse of a dugout in Twijzel.
A 10 year old girl was killed in the accident in May and five other children were injured.
The Prosecutor also finds that prosecution from a social perspective will not add anything. The municipality has set its civil liability for the damage and will make every effort to meet them, according to the Public Prosecutor.
"In addition, the fatal accident received a lot of attention nationwide from sports associations and the safety of dugouts in general was held against the light."
On May 21st the victims were participating in a softball tournament. They were sitting on top of the dugout when the accident occurred.
Since October last year there had been a crack in the dugout, caused by a branch falling on the structure during a storm. The investigation revealed that the crack caused the dugout's roof to collapse. Both the municipality and the football club new about the damage, but did not order repairs or emergency measures, Trouw reports.
