Amsterdam Zwarte Piet ruling set for Nov. 12: Council of State
The Council of State discussed Zwarte Piet in Amsterdam today. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan will appeal against the decision of the administrative court earlier this year, which ruled that the permit for the Sinterklaastocht 2013 should be reconsidered.
The judge stated that too little attention was given to the concerns of activists who believe that too much emphasis is put on the history of slavery. Van der Laan in turn thinks that Zwarte Piet does not belong in the courtroom.
There is a lot of interest for the Piet process at the highest administrative court. A few protesters stood on the steps of Paleis Kneuterdijk.
The Piet process finally came to an end after three hours. The Council of State will make a ruling in the Zwarte Piet case on November 12th.
