Amsterdam considers new tram to Science Park

The renewal of the area around Amstelstation is officially starting. A tower with apartments (Amstel Tower) and a new station are on the way. Developer Provast wants to deliver Amstel Tower by the end of 2017. The municipality expects that the entire station area will be ready in 2021. The renovations also includes the renovation of the station square. A bypass must be built and the tram route moved during the work, to avoid inconvenience. The City of Amsterdam is also considering adding a tram route to Science Park, but no decision has been made yet. A group of residents have protested about the trees that will have to be cut down to build the homes, hotel, shops and offices. As a concession rows of trees will be planted along the new Julianalaan and there will also be a park. The construction of the park will start after the summer of 2015.
