Wall collapse leaves two dead

Two men died Thursday afternoon in Waalwijk when a stack of concrete blocks fell on them.

The accident happened at Van de Reijt Meststoffen BV. The victims are a 22-year-old man from Andel and the 54-year-old man from Waalwijk; one of them worked for the company, the other was a contractor who was there to fix some equipment. Reports are that after the repair job was finished, the two men were talking just under the wall of blocks, when it suddenly collapsed on top of them.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the two victims died on the scene. Waalwijk Mayor Nol Kleijngeld went over to personally speak to the relatives and colleagues of the deceased men.

It is not clear what caused the wall to collapse.
