Netherlands push for more EU financial reforms
Eurogroup chairman Jeroen Dijsselbloem says that European countries and certain euro countries. should do more to improve the economy in Europe. The keyword here is structural reforms.
Dijsselbloem is currently in Milan to consult with the finance ministers of the euro countries.
According to Dijsselbloem too much time has been lost in a number of countries when it comes to structural reform. The minister says that it is time to step up the pace. According to the minister the European Central Bank has already gone very far in accommodating economic recovery. It is high time to see how the countries can do more in the "reserve time the ECB has given us", he says.
Dissjelbloem was responding to the call from the head of the ECB, Mario Draghi, and the support measures the ECB has provided. Draghi stated that the stimulating measures of the ECB will only be effective for economic growth if governments also implement the necessary structural reforms.
Dijsselbloem says that it's about a good mix of monetary policy by central banks and sound fiscal policies combined with reforms by the countries.
