Two earthquakes shake Groningen
Residents of Hoogezand in Groningen experienced two earthquakes this morning. The Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI) recorded them within 40 minutes of each other, the NOS reports.
The first quake was recorded with a strength of 2.6 on the Richter scale at 09.17. The second quake was an aftershock of the first, and was 1.6 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter of the quake was in Froombosch, in-between Hoogezand and Slochteren. Slochteren is situated close to gas-extraction activities.
Residents reported that they felt something of the earthquake with RTV Noord. Several people reported on Twitter that they were woken by the shock and that they felt their homes shaking.
