Girl (10) dies after collision, playing scouting game
A 10-year-old girl died this morning from injuries received when a car collided with her. The girl was participating in a scouting game called 'dropping' on the Deventer Kunstweg in Beltrum, the Algemeen Dagblad reports.
The police say that the driver of the car, a 19-year-old man from Groenlo, was not drunk when he collided with the group of children at around 10.15 p.m. Monday night.
According to the Algemeen Dagblad, the group of kids were participating in a game of 'dropping' organized by a camp site. In the game, children are dropped off at a distance from a location, which they have to use their navigation skills to find the way back.
The police says that the driver collided with the group, who were walking in the dark on the left side of the road with a supervisor.
The 10-year-old girl was left with broken bones and brain injury. She was immediately brought to hospital with a trauma helicopter. She died there some hours later from her injuries.
Police are still unsure what exactly happened. Counseling has been organized for the other children in her group, who witnessed the event.
