Airline crews scared to fly: report
Dutch pilots and crew have expressed concerns about their safety when flying to Nigeria where the Ebola virus is raging, Tel Aviv because of the Hamas conflict and until recently Iraq,
De Telegraaf daily quotes flight attendants and pilots who say that they had raised concerns about flying over eastern Ukraine even before flight MH17 was downed. They say that now they are concerned that KLM is still flying from Nigeria to Tel Aviv. “If something goes wrong you’re dead,” they say.
The newspaper quotes Steven Verhagen, chairman of the Association of Dutch Pilots, who hints that according to the Pentagon the group Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) has an entire army. Verhagen called for a better exchange of information and wants KLM to raise the awareness about Ebola. The airline has said that there is no reason yet to drop Nigeria and Tel Aviv as destinations.
