PostNL profits show signs of life
Dutch postal service PostNL announces Monday that cuts, the smooth restructuring process and price hikes have resulted in an improved turnover for the second quarter of this year. Turnover increased with an added three percent to more than €1 billion.
From a net profit of €3 million in this period of last year, the company's profits this year rocketed to €44 million. "A strong first half year", says PostNL executive Herna Verhagen.
PostNL's international activities, in the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy, provided a turnover of four percent. The efforts in Germany remain behind due to strong competition.
The company attributes its growth to online shopping, for one. To increase its activities, PostNL has also introduced evening delivery. The number of packages delivered increased with 8.2 percent.
Last week, PostNL announced that it would launch a test to deliver packages on Sundays in partnership with online shop Coolbue.
