The shooting down of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in Ukraine may be a war crime. The High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations, Navi Pillay, said that this could be the ruling once the investigations into the tragedy have come to an end.

Pillay wants a thorough investigation into a "breach of international law", a possibility that the United States as well as the Ukrainian government are already stating as fact.

These governments believe that the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 was shot down with a surface-to-air missile almost two weeks ago.

Furthermore, the culprits are believed to be pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine, who may have shot the missile off by accident.

The High Commissioner has published a report stating that the conflict in Ukraine has already killed 1129 people, and injured another 3442 .
