In a statement, FIFA does not believe that this kind of action is the most effective way to solve problems. "History has shown so far that boycotting sport events or a policy of isolation or confrontation are not the most effective ways to solve problems."

The football association says that it "deplores any form of violence and will continue to use its tournaments to promote dialogue, understanding and peace among peoples."

Dutch football association KNVB did not want to discuss the possibility of a boycott this week. The association only wants to discuss this when the investigation into the plane crash has been completed.
