Woman dies trying to save kids from drowning

A woman passed away in hospital on Thursday evening after braving strong currents trying to rescue children from drowning in the Zijpe, close to Sint Philipsland in Zeeland. The 35-year old woman from Nieuwegein was picking oysters with her family in the Zijpe when she saw that some children in the water had come into dangerous circumstances because of the current. She swam to their aid, but became unconscious during the rescue action. Witnesses pulled the woman out of the water, and the children she tried to help all made it ashore. The woman was revived at the scene and brought to an area hospital, but died there Tuesday evening. All of the children were doing well and had no injuries, according to broadcaster NOS.
