Thieves empty old man's house during hospital stay

As if they were waiting for him to be carted off, thieves cleared out an elderly man's house just after an ambulance took him to the a hospital last February.

After the 94-year-old man got injured and fell ill in the night of February 22, an ambulance was called and he was taken away.

His neighbors in the Bos en Lommer neighborhood in Amsterdam discovered the next morning that his house had been broken into; the criminals had forced the door, rummaged through the house and made off with several of the man's valuable belongings as well as money.

The man died shortly after in the hospital. Police say they are releasing this information only now because they wanted to hear all witnesses first.
