Alcohol labels to warn women trying to conceive
The labels on most bottles of alcoholic drinks in the Netherlands will be supplied with warnings for women who want to become pregnant from 2016.
Drink manufacturers have promised the state secretary for Public Health, Martin van Rijn, to place these warning labels on "as many bottles" as possible, the Telegraaf reports.
The warnings must be placed on 90 percent of beers, 70 percent of wines, and 60 percent of bottles containing distilled alcohol.
MP for the PvdA, Agnes Wolbert, thinks that the warnings on bottles of alcohol are so small that she is calling for a n indication of the risks on the instructions of pregnancy tests and contraceptives as well. State secretary Van Rijn states that the industry cannot make this obligatory, in a response to Wolbert's questions.
