Suspicious package at AH Nijmegen not a bomb
A suspicious briefcase was discovered on Friday morning in front of the Albert Heijn on the Van Schevichavenstraat in Nijmegen. It does not appear to be a bomb.
The shop was cleared after employees found the briefcase with attached handcuffs at 07:50 a.m. by the front door. The police were called immediately.
The police showed up with the fire department as well as the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team. A special bomb-detecting dog inspected the briefcase, but couldn't sniff out any explosives.
For security reasons, the entire street was blocked off. The homes above the AH were not evacuated, however.
The shop will open again in the morning.
