Bridge collapse injures four

Four people were injured in Katwijk when a dump truck struck a pedestrian bridge. One person was seriously hurt and taken to an area hospital, reports newspaper NRC. The others were treated at the scene. The accident was reported at about 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday. The temporary bridge is on Boulevard in the North Sea beach town. The structure was built to allow people to access the beach by walking above construction crews shoring up coastal defenses.

One person on the scene told broadcaster Omroep West, “It was extremely frightening, people at that moment were sitting on the terrace when it all happened. I went to take a look myself, and saw a woman had to be carried down because she could not do it by herself.” The Boulevard has since reopened. The accident is under investigation.
