Flevoland hit hard by unemployment
All provinces saw their unemployment rate go up in 2013, but some were hit harder than others. Flevoland, Groningen, and Friesland, in descending order, have the highest unemployment rates over 2013. Zuid-Holland, who was in the top three in 2012, saw a relatively small increase in its unemployment rate, dropping it to fourth place.
Zealand, who consistently had a low unemployment rate experienced a rise in 2013, but was still well below the national average of 8.3 percent with only 5.8 percent. Gelderland, Utrecht, and Noord-Brabant also had lower unemployment rates, lower than 8 percent. Unemployment was highest in the 4 largest Cities. With Rotterdam again in the lead with 13.9 percent, unemployment grew more rapid in Amsterdam from 7.9 to 10 percent. The Hague only registered a slight increase from 10.9 to 11.1 percent.
