Extra research needed in gas drilling Groningen

The reduction of gas production at Loppersum in Groningen, means that minister of Economic Affairs Henk Kamp must do new research to find the results of that measure. State supervision on the Mines (Staatstoezicht op de Mijnen) tells the NOS that they are supervising the gas drilling operations among other activities. Last month, the cabinet decided to bring down production at Loppersum in relation to the frequent earthquakes in the area. Gas drilling will continue in other parts of the province. More research is needed to figure out what the plans recommended by Staatstoezicht will actually mean for the different regions in Groningen. "New sums must be made again by NAM" inspector general De Jong of Staatstoezicht said.
