One injured in prison nail gun fight

A prisoner in a detention center in Alphen aan den Rijn has shot another detainee in the foot with a nail gun.  This happened at the work detail, where detainees were making wooden pallets with the nail guns. The victim, Redouan L., had to be brought to hospital as the nail went straight through his foot. He will not be able to walk normally for some time. Redouan L. admits to being scared. "I could also have been shot through the head", he tells RTL news. According to trade union CNV Publieke Zaak, the occurrence is illustrative for the general situation in prisons. Because of cuts, prison wardens can no longer guarantee safety in prisons. The Service for Justiciary Information says it is investigating the matter and confirms that "an incident" took place in Alphen aan den Rijn.
