Car thefts up; first time in a decade
The number of car thefts has gone up for the first time in ten years, according to the Foundation for Tackling Vehicle Crime (AVc). The foundations recorded 11,761 car thefts over the last year, 365 more than in 2012.
Newer Volkswagens, BMW's, Audi's and vans in general, not older than 3 years, were most popular. The Citroën, Opel, and Renault were least popular. The number of stolen cars found, went down from 46 percent to 43 percent.
Car thieves are getting better at bypassing electronic security systems, whereas locking the transmission or steering column makes it harder to steal a car, according to the AVc.
