Three artists selected for King's official portrait
The Mondriaan Fund on Wednesday announced that three artists –Iris van Dongen, Rineke Dijkstra and Femmy Otten – have been selected to make an official portrait of Dutch King Willem-Alexander.
Overall, 12 artists were invited to submit the sketches and an expert committee made this choice.
The official portraits can be ordered by ministries, provinces, municipalities, embassies, courts and other interested parties including individuals.
The project will cost about €370,000 and each artist will receive €75,000 for their work, NRC reported.
The other nominees were: Hans Broek; Hadassah Emmerich; Ringel Goslinga; Natasha Kensmil; Sam Samiee; Berend Strik; Emo Verkerk; Koen Vermeule; and Ina van Zyl.
All 12 sketches are being displayed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
The selected artists are expected to deliver their works in the autumn.
