E-book sales up 60 %
E-books are growing in popularity in the Netherlands. Boekblad reports that 2013 saw a 60 percent rise of Dutch E-book titles in 2013.
It said digital books represented more than 3.2 percent of the total revenue from booksales. There were 1.95 million E-books sold in 2013, up from the 1.2 million of 2012.
Mathijs Suidman, Manager Digital Media at Dutch book distributor Centraal Boekhuis said that one-in-five books ordered online in 2013 was digital. The number of E-book titles rose from 19,230 to 28,319. Centraal Boekhuis is home to some 80,000 books.
Suidman explained that E-books revenue sounds low because digital books generally cost less than traditional books. He said he had expected faster E-book growth, partially because “I had expected that libraries would start lending out E-books in October.”
