Oxfam: NL has best, healthiest, cheapest food

The Netherlands has the most nutritious, healthy and affordable diet in the world, according to a new food database by worldwide development organization Oxfam. Healthy Food / Wikipedia Beating France and Switzerland, the Netherlands has become the world top country for abundant, healthy and cheap food, showed a new ranking released by Oxfam on Tuesday. Oxfam’s Good Enough to Eat index compares 125 countries and looks at whether people have enough to eat, food quality, affordability, and dietary health. The ranking was dominated by European countries while the United States and Japan did not make it into the top 20. Oxfam’s GROW campaign calls for urgent reform to the way food is produced and distributed around the world to end the scandal of one in eight people going hungry despite there being enough to feed everyone. According to Oxfam, nearly 840 million people go hungry every day, despite there being enough food for the hungry, Reuters reported. "The Netherlands have created a good market that enables people to get enough to eat. Prices are relatively low and stable and the type of food people are eating is balanced," Deborah Hardoon, a senior researcher at Oxfam who compiled the results, said in an interview. "They've got the fundamentals right and in a way that is better than most other countries all over the world."
